South Node Eclipse:
A South Node Solar Eclipse is much like a new moon that is preparing us for an influx of new incoming energy. However, ancient astrology warns us that if we do begin something new, it is best to keep it hidden or secret when it comes to Solar Eclipses. With a South Node Eclipse, we are being called to let go and release old, outdated energy to make way for new energy. An old phase must end, so a new phase can begin. In a way it seems like a South Node Eclipse expects us to wrap things up or give things up to move forward. We may feel weaker than usual, or more lethargic with the South Node involved. Because the Sun rules the ego there may be an ego or identity crisis that can come into play. The midpoint NE|HA=NO Indicates we may find ourselves experiencing disappointments in connections with others. This could take place as people realize they have been deceived about or by their connections. Experiencing some kind of water catastrophe could take place as well given the midpoint of Neptune and Hades being involved with the Node.
A Libra Eclipse:
The sign of Libra is about our partnerships and alliances. It rules actors and actresses so they may be a little louder than usual. Oddly it is said to rule Argentina, and I do believe that this eclipse path does cross Argentina. Lawsuits and litigation, marriage and divorce, are also very Libra topics. I was surprised to see that it also allegedly rules warfare. An eclipse in Libra is associated with justice, social issues, and potential division in my opinion. If the eclipse negatively impacts the public, we may see issues of public unrest, and disagreements about morals that bring about a very divided public.
An Eclipse in the USA’S 11th house:
The 11th house rules friends, social groups and connections, long term hopes, wishes, and ideals. Changes in affiliations or with our allies could take place with the eclipse falling in the 11th house. Interestingly the 11th house rules the house of representatives, the national treasury, the senate, and legislation too so those themes may come to the forefront while this eclipse is active. It is also said that this is the house that rules the will of the people in mundane astrology. I really must wonder if issues with US allies take center stage.
Saros Series 8 South:
“Separation and loss. To be parted. To finish something, and to feel sad at its completion. Physical injury is also possible through over-straining one’s strength. This is not the time to undertake strenuous physical activities.” – Bernadette Brady, The Eagle and The Lark. Soooo, my mouth dropped open, and I got very worried when I saw what Dr. Brady had to say about this family of eclipses. Hopefully it will not be too bad. The last time this family of eclipses were active was 2006 so looking back at that time frame may prove to be slightly informative.
An Eclipse in the 15th Lunar Mansion:
This eclipse is an interesting one that takes place in the 15th lunar mansion. In Arabic, the name of the Fifteenth Mansion is Al-Ghafr, can be translated to, “The Covering.” The tropical boundaries are from 0 Libra to 12 Libra 51. The Mansion Al-Ghafr was originally located in the two stars in the constellation Virgo. This Lunar mansion is the nature of Mercury and Mars supposedly which to me screams verbal disagreements. Keywords for this mansion are: Veiling, the realization of desires and wishes, hidden splendors. The theme of this mansion is associated with taking receipts and the loss of wealth.
Now as far as magic goes, it says in the Picatrix, Book I, Chapter Four, “ in this Mansion, make images for the digging of wells, to seek underground treasure, to impede travelers so that they are unable to go on their journeys, and to separate husband and wife so that they never join with each other, to place discord between friends and allies, to scatter enemies from your area, and for the destruction of the houses of your enemies.”
Eclipse with Fixed Star Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix, the Gatherer of Grapes, supposedly represents Ampelos, the son of a satyr and a nymph, to whom Bacchus, in token of his fondness, gave a vine planted at the foot of an elm. While Ampelos was gathering grapes he fell and broke his neck, Bacchus placed him among the stars as a memorial of his former affection. The name of this star is said to have been given to it because it rises in the morning just before the time of vintage. According to Ptolemy it is of the nature of Saturn and Mercury; to Simmonite, of Saturn and Venus, to Wilson and Pearce, of Saturn, Venus and Mercury, and, To Alvidas, of Mercury and Saturn in evil aspect. It supposedly gives falsity, disgrace, stealing, wanton folly and often causes its natives to become Widows (which is why most astrologers lovingly refer to the star as, “the widow maker,”). With Sun it is said to bring about worry, depression, unpopularity, failure in business, and harassment by creditors. With the Moon it is said to bring worry, many disappointments, loss through law or writings and theft, bad health, failure in business. I guess we will wait and see how it plays out?
Eclipse Ruler: Venus 11.46 Scorpio
Due to the proximity of Mercury to this eclipse and the fact Mercury has more dignity than Venus I think we should look at them both, so I will. Venus unhappily sits in Scorpio, in detriment, conjunct TNP Zeus and with a couple fixed stars, Acrux, Mimosa, and Alphecca. Acrux is the brightest star in the Southern Cross. It is said to be of the nature of Jupiter. It supposedly gives religious beneficence, justice, magic and mystery. Acrux is associated with inventive minds, intuition and wisdom that gives people an ability to see the inner nature of our fellow humans. It is said to be good for investigating hidden things.
Alphecca means, “the Bright One of the Dish,” According to Ptolemy it is of the nature of Venus and Mercury, but Alvidas considers it to be more like Mars and Mercury. It gives honors, dignity, and artistic ability. With Venus it is said to be favorable for love affairs, benefits from friends, artistic and musical tastes. On the negative side, in natal astrology it can bring about scandals, underhanded dealings, back biting, tendency to being a loner and being dishonored. Given Venus is in Scorpio I must wonder if that is how it is going to play out if it does at all. Venus with Zeus is about procreation, increase, and intense passion.
Midpoints and Uranian Observations:
I compared the upcoming eclipse to the first eclipse of SS 8 S and the 10 Libra eclipse’s Pluto is square SS 8 S Saturn. In Uranian Astrology Saturn hinders or slows growth and development brought about by Pluto. Slow, gradual separations or divorces are said to come with this combination. It becomes more difficult to apply ourselves to things. Necessity takes center stage. Transformation occurs due to separation. Needy people are represented by this combo. It brings about scarcity.
The midpoints with the eclipse itself are negative. The Hades Vulcanus midpoint is active. With the moon it could imply illness, weak people who lack courage, or people inclined towards violence and brutality. With the sun this midpoint can bring about issues with vermin such as lice, fleas, etc. It is said that this midpoint brings obstacles or dependency when with the sun.
I was intrigued to see that the Admetos Poseidon midpoint with the moon brings up themes of brain washing and influencing others. It is about unconsciously induced or influenced people and populations. Rules for planetary pictures said, “A nation of people subjected to the influence of a certain upbringing, education, or training. The same is valid for women and the public. A perceptive public,” I thought that was interesting.
The Mercury Saturn midpoint with the eclipse brings themes of sad thoughts and statements. With the Sun our purpose is putting thoughts and ideas into tangible form; to establish a foundation for better understanding conscious and unconscious thought.
The Mars Hades midpoint is with Mercury, who is very close to this eclipse. This brings about themes of shameful stupidity. Abusive words, cursing, profanity are associated with this midpoint and Mercury together. It would be wise to not allow others to belittle or malign people. Contemplating activities which would cause losses or damage (such as thoughts of murder or suicide) are associated with this combination. I encourage everyone to drive safely and try to keep a calm attitude because I have a feeling this might get wild for the population.
