In this article I will discuss the basic meaning of this conjunction with Algol. Then I move on to the Mars Uranus conjunctions that have already occurred on Algol over the course of time and what was happening in the world at that time. Taurus in general is about preservation, consolidation, perseverance, bringing form to things – I.e. making things physical.
Basic Overview of Mars
Mars is physical or active energy at its most basic. It always wants to be doing something, it represents willpower, determination, courage, determination when it is coming through positively. When it comes through negatively it is destructive, it likes to fight, it can be a very impulsive and ruthless planet that brings up brutality. In Taurus Mars wants to acquire possessions and it can be impulsive or vindictive. It rules fighting and weapons like guns. In Taurus Mars is not happy, Taurus is physical form and manifestation so we may have an anger here that becomes physical.
Basic Overview of Uranus
Uranus is change we can’t really see coming for us. It’s revolutionary and brings sudden changes about. It’s exciting, and very unpredictable, Uranus values independence and freedom very much. With Mars ruling anger and fighting and Uranus wanting to be free we may see fighting for freedom or independence on some level taking place. These are two very agile planets that like movement and motility so be careful driving. This combo is passionate about innovation and has a rebellious nature, often wanting revolution and reforms.
Being in Taurus it may seek out of the ordinary ways of acquiring money and financial goods. With Taurus being about money and Uranus being impulsive and out of the ordinary we may see people resorting to unusual ways of earning money and spending money. There is going to be financial risks involved in this transit so at this time people should avoid speculation or risking everything by putting all their eggs into one basket because Uranus and Mars together can bring about failure regarding actions made prematurely or impulsively.
Principal Meaning of Mars Combined with Uranus
The principal meaning is “physical intervention,” so it’s often considered a surgery aspect. Both are planets that just go right ahead and do whatever they feel like because they are both independent and they don’t yield to anybody else’s will and desires. They’re going to do what they feel like, and we should get out of the way of this unstoppable duo in my opinion. Together they have this way of bringing up a false sense of courage that we should all avoid during the conjunction.
This combination will likely make people more prone to “snapping,” at others in anger. It can be very argumentative and also contradictory. There can be a feeling of lacking inner balance, intolerance, and it cause an enormous amount of tension in the house this conjunction is in for you personally if it is afflicting anything in your chart. Obstinance and willful behavior can come about at it’s most basic, and some people may be prone to injuries or accidents if they don’t slow down and be observant.
Unfortunately, this combo can make the population feel more violent than usual regarding the need to fight for freedom and creating revolution as you will see when we discuss the history of this conjunction later. There is a great potential for out of the ordinary achievements through extraordinary physical effort and work on the bright side of things. I am hoping we see new and revolutionary inventions, as this combination is associated with those topics.
Mars and Uranus Conjunct Fixed Star Algol
Many astrologers are concerned about this particular conjunction. This is because Algol is one of the most revered fixed stars in astrology so to speak. Algol is in the Perseus constellation, and in illustrations of this constellation, you can see Perseus with his sword raised holding the decapitated head of Medusa. The Fixed Star Algol sits in Medusa’s decapitated head in her left eye and blinks red if I recall correctly. Arabic people called Algol “Ras al Ghul,” and that translates into the title, “head of the demon,”
According to Bernadette Brady Chinese astrologers called Algol, “Tseih She,” which means, “piled up corpses,” She goes on to say that in Talmudic Law she is the first wife of Adam, Lilith. Uranus with Algol (According to Bernedette Brady) makes society upset about injustices towards those who are powerless and then she says, society tries to help the powerless. She goes on to say that it can represent a person who tries to take or claim power over a community. Mars with Algol is described as a crisis because of actions motivated by passion. This star rules multiple countries such as Turkey, Madrid, Barcelona, Spain, China, Naples, Italy, Bulgaria, Rome, and more.
According to Robson it causes mob violence and is, “the evilest star in the heavens,” legend has it that the Arabs would not embark in starting battles when Algol’s red blinking light got dim. Roughly every 69 hours (about 3 days) it will begin to blink for 8 hours straight. I suppose no matter what social or cultural lens you look at Algol through it seems to be considered very negative. Author George Noonan, says that this constellation is indicative of events that affect large numbers of people when a major planetary phenomenon occurs. I would say that since this conjunction on Algol only happens every so often it’s a big deal. William Lily, who is one of my favorite astrologers, considered ANY planet with Algol to be afflicted. Mars is already afflicted when in Taurus. Traditionally Mars is considered the lesser malefic and is in detriment in Taurus.
Looking through the lens of Uranian Astrology may give us more specific details about what we can expect. “Rules for Planetary Pictures,” state that when Mars is with Uranus abrupt actions can be taken and unexpected developments occur. Over-impulsive action likely takes place because both planets are so impulsive. It says sudden events will likely occur. The combination without Algol is said to cause an enormous state of enormous excitement. It is associated with fighting, wounds, exciting action, energetic acts, bloody injuries, and it is said that accidents can occur.
Midpoints state official functions and actions of large communities may take center stage. Noteworthy musicians and technicians are mentioned as well as some kind of sudden artistic product. An event of allied nations may take place. The Saturn Vulcanus midpoint with these two are creepy and mean, “under guard while working, to work as a prisoner, slavery, suddenly imprisoned or dependent, to harness, capture or bind,”
The History of Mars Conjunct Uranus on Algol
Themes of independence, uprisings, imprisonment, slavery, and freedom are strong with this conjunction as you can see from looking at the historical notes later on in the article. February 1438 @ 19.58 Taurus
It was difficult to find information from 1438 but according to what I did find, in 1438 the Inca Dynasty was founded. The dynasty ruled in Peru until 1553. Pachacutec took the Incan throne and rapidly expanded the empire over the course of this time. The office of Holy Roman emperor became a hereditary title within the Habsburg dynasty in 1438. There was a great famine that swept through England at that time. It is said to have lasted for about a year due to a succession of wet harvests, and was equally severe in Scotland and in France, having then caused famine-sickness as well as plague (I believe this out break was Leporocy). If any one has any insight into 1438 I would LOVE to learn more about it.
June 17th, 1520 @ 19.21 Taurus
The Year 1520 was dubbed, “the year of disease,” due to a large outbreak of smallpox that killed 5 to 8 million Native Mexicans during the European Conquest. That is about half the population of New York. Spain captured the ruler of the Aztecs, eventually defeating them. Martin Luther was threatened by the Catholic Church after he publishes To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation. The treaty of Scotland was signed. There was an establishment of a short-lived alliance between Henry VIII and Francis I of France on June 7th. If any one has any historical insight into 1520 Please do share!
April 28th, 1605 @ 21 Taurus
1605 was either a little more eventful than the previous conjunctions, or just easier to find information on. The day before the conjunction Pope Leo XI suddenly died of what seems to have been a cold. There was an outbreak of Bubonic Plague as well in 1605. National authorities aimed to regulate the Plague with statutes such as the 1605 Plague Act, which put restrictions on the movement of the infectious. Authorities closed up houses with the infected and the families inside their homes to prevent the diseased from, “wandering or escaping to the country,” and causing other areas of the population to be infected. Authorities also issued “Charitable Relief,” which the entire nation had to pay, to ensure that the infected did not attempt to escape their home to look for food or employment. The Act basically blamed the lower classes for purposely “wandering abroad and thereby infecting others.” Many believe the idea that, based on class, sickness was discriminatory, in England. The Polish Russian War took place. 4/24/1605 the Popish Recusants Act 1605 was introduced in Parliament which threatened to outlaw all English followers of the Catholic Church. Of course, later that year, long after the conjunction, the Gun Powder Plot becomes a big deal in November.
July 6th, 1772 @ 23 Taurus
Many interesting events took place in 1772. One of the biggest being an outbreak of Bubonic Plague called, “The Persian Plague,” A month before the conjunction we had the beginning of the American revolution that took place off Rhode Island on 6/10/1772. Twelve days later slavery ends in England. The Russo-Turkish was waging at this time. Shortly after the conjunction on July 13th James Cook embarked on his 2nd voyage from Plymouth to prove the existence of an uncharted continent further sound than New Zealand. This was called the search for Terra Australis (Southern continent) I do believe. to search for Terra Australis (Southern continent).
Joseph Priestley’s discovery of nitrous oxide (N2O) was recorded at some point in 1772. On 6/10 there is a credit crisis triggered by London Banking House and panic broke out and caused other banks to fail from Scotland to Amsterdam, and the 13 colonies of British North America.
May 6th, 1857 @ 24 Taurus
The “Indian Rebellion,” of 1857 took place about 5 days after this conjunction. It is also referred to as the Sepoy mutiny, the Indian Mutiny, the Uprising, and the first Indian war of independence. when soldiers of the Bengal army shot their British officers and marched on Delhi. The rebellion spread to include many Indian civilians in northern and central India. The British recaptured Delhi in September 1857, forcing the surrender of Bahadur Shah II, the last Mughal emperor.
Months later, in September the Panic of 1857, a financial crisis breaks out worldwide due to speculation in U.S. railroad shares and the collapse of the New York City branch of the Ohio Life Insurance and Trust Company. The crisis spread to Europe. On 5/25 the first, “flying Eagle cent was released and began circulating. On 5/19 the fire alarm was patented and at some point, that year so was the sewing machine.
The Dred Scott decision was center stage In May 1856, and the final decision was delivered on March 6, 1857 just a few months prior to the conjunction. On May 26, 1857, Dred and Harriet Scott appeared in the St. Louis Circuit Court and were formally freed; no longer slaves! At some point that year it is said that Hollywood was founded, and at some point, that year the Mormons left Vegas
March 1st, 1942 @ 26.38 Taurus
At this point world war two had been raging on since 1939. On March 24, 1942, the U.S. government began army-directed evictions and evacuations, forcing over 200 Japanese American residents on Bainbridge Island in Washington state to evacuate their homes within six days.
On the day of the conjunction, 3/1 The Inspectorate of Concentration Camps opens a second camp at Auschwitz, called Auschwitz-Birkenau or Auschwitz II. The first prisoners are 945 Soviet prisoners of war and a few Polish prisoners from Auschwitz I. It continued to serve as a concentration camp, it also began to function as a killing center from March 1942 until November 1944.
On 2/28 there was a Race riot at Sojourner Truth Homes, a housing project in Detroit, Michigan.
On 3/1 the Battle of Java Sea ends, and the US suffers a major naval defeat. March 9 , Executive order 9082 (February 28, 1942) reorganizes the United States Army into three major commands: Army Ground Forces, Army Air Forces, and Services of Supply, later re designated Army Service Forces.
3/9 Slovak authorities require all Jews to wear the yellow Star of David on their outer clothing.
3/17 German SS and police authorities begin the first deportations of Jews, from the ghettos in Lublin and Lvov, to the Belzec killing center. These are the first major deportations within the framework of Operation Reinhard. The SS Special Detachment stationed at Belzec kills at least 434,508 Jews in gas chambers with carbon monoxide gas between March 17 and December 31, 1942. 3/26 – Slovak authorities begin systematic deportations of Jews from Slovakia. Between March and October 1942, Slovak authorities deport nearly 58,000 Slovak Jews into German custody. The Germans ultimately deport nearly 19,000 of them to Auschwitz and 39,000 to Lublin District, selecting 9,000 as forced laborers in the Lublin/Majdanek concentration camp and deporting at least 24,378 on to the Sobibor killing center.
3/27 German authorities begin systematic deportations of Jews from France. The first train contains approximately 1,000 Jews from the Compiègne and Drancy detention camps; German authorities send it to Auschwitz-Birkenau. By the end of August 1944, the Germans will deport more than 75,000 Jews from France to camps in the east, mostly to the Auschwitz-Birkenau killing center. Fewer than 3,000 survive.
